Good questions. Simple answers.
Is adding 20% the same as adding 20?
Only when the starting value is 100. Increasing 350 by 20% adds 70, giving 420.
Can I use negative numbers?
Yes. The formula applies literally: increasing −100 by 10% gives −110. A negative rate subtracts a percentage instead.
